Nepal is the latest country to introduce a domestic T20 tournament. Former South African batsman AB De Villiers set to play for Nepal’s Everest Premier League. Everest Premier League is the biggest tournament in Nepal. The 37-year-old South African legendary batsman will be a part of this. He is also one of the top names who will light up the tournament. Nepalese Cricket Board is very much optimistic about this tournament. They are hoping to get a massive response through this tournament which could lead to the great popularity of cricket in Nepal. This tournament was said to happen in 2020. But, COVID 19 situation changed that and the tournament get postponed. By the way, De Villiers is one of the biggest stars to join in this tournament.

AB De Villiers, who was branded as the “Mr 360 Degree” for his mercuric batting, agreed to join the tournament. Nepal’s league is slated to begin on September 26 and end on October 9. There is not a single doubt that his presence will increase the popularity of this T20 tournament. West Indies legendary batsman Chris Gayle penned a deal with franchise Pokhra Rhinos in the last year. It’s not clear yet whether the “Universe Boss” will join this time or not.

EPL’s Managing Director Aamir Akhtar already confirmed the news of De Villiers. He seems so delighted –

We are trying our best to bring top international cricketers for EPL to put Nepal in the frame of global cricket. We had tried to bring AB de Villiers the previous season as well but he couldn’t be available. This edition he has agreed to be here. If nothing comes in between, he will be playing at the TU grounds for sure.

However, it is not sure which franchise will take De Villiers. But, at least, his arrival is fully confirmed and it is such a great thing for EPL. There are six franchises in the EPL tournament. One of the franchise names Lalitpur Patriots already wishing to have De Villiers in their team.

I think every franchise will run behind a player like AB de Villiers. We know other teams are also trying to get him like us. We are hoping to rope him into our franchise.

Lalitpur Patriots owner Kishor Maharjan expressed his hope.

Apart from Pokhra Rhinos and Lalitpur Patriots, there are four more franchises in this tournament. The franchises are – Bhairahawa Gladiators, Chitwan Tigers, Biratnagar Warriors and Kathmandu Kings XI.

On the other hand, De Villiers is currently preparing to play for IPL’s 14th edition. He will join Royal Challengers Bangalore in order to secure their first-ever title.
