The IPL parent body keeps several options open to commence IPL 2020 tournament. UAE and Sri Lanka already show interest to hold this billion-dollar tournament. Now, New Zealand also indexes its name to host this lucrative tournament. The BCCI confirms that the IPL 2020 might take place in India with international stars after the monsoon.

On top of that, BCCI is still in a dilemma whether they organize IPL this year or not. But, they’ve already got various options on the table. It’s more or less confirm if it happens, India won’t be the organizer this year of IPL. The reason is India is greatly suffering due to COVID 19 pandemic. Currently, India is having the third-largest caseload of coronavirus cases behind Brazil and USA.

However, New Zealand’s situation is very good from this perspective. There’s not even a single case of Coronavirus in NZ. Moreover, the government of NZ already announced that NZ is free from COVID 19.

Staging the event in India has to be the first choice but in case it is not safe to have it, then we will look at the overseas options. After UAE and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has also offered to host the IPL. We will sit down with all stakeholders (broadcaster, teams, etc) and take a call. The safety of the players is paramount. There will be no compromise on that.

A senior BCCI official insisted.

On the other hand, the IPL tournament already hosted overseas two times. In 2009, the whole tournament organized in South Africa due to the Indian General Election. Later, in 2014, the first phase of IPL hosted by UAE.

As per the original schedule of IPL 2020, it was about to begin from March 29. But, IPL authority later changed the date and postponed till April 14. Then, they postponed it for indefinite times.
