Cheerleaders play a vital role in adding glamour to the IPL. However, when Mumbai Indians (MI)cheerleader ‘Gabriella Pasqualotto’ wrote in a blog (The secret diaries of an IPL cheerleader) that

The cheerleaders were like walking porn to the citizens.

It created an outcry in the media. Quickly she was dismissed from her job and was sent back home. She said,

I was sent home as if I was a criminal. I was treated as if I had taken drugs or done something awful, and I was never offered an opportunity to give my side of the story. It’s a joke. The guys treated us like a piece of meat. We couldn’t go anywhere without the crowds mobbing us.

Bollywood superstar and the owner of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shah Rukh Khan was banned from Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in 2012 for five years as he allegedly abused stadium officials after a match between KKR and MI. However, later on, in 2015, the ban was revoked by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The spot-fixing scandal tarred the face of IPL throughout the years. Three Rajasthan Royals players S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested and jailed subsequently by the Police for allegedly meeting with the gamblers in 2013. Later on, In July 2015, they were cleared of all the charges after they were found not guilty by the Patiala House Courts.

In 2013 not a single player or officials from Sri-Lanka took part in the IPL games in Chennai. The reason was then Tamil Nadu government declared it unsafe for them to stay in the city. Political tension grew afterward stemming from the treatment of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka and capped by a letter written by the Tamil Nadu state government to the prime minister of India asking for a ban on Sri Lankan involvement in the Chennai leg of the IPL.

From the very first season of IPL, the clash between players was a very common thing. For example, Harbhajan Singh slapped his teammate S. Sreesanth after a match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians which created sensationalism in media and that was referred to as “Slapgate.’’  

Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc started a heated argument during the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB). This resulted in Pollard to lose 75% and Starc 50% of their match fee by referee Andy Pycroft.

In 2015 Indian Supreme Court banned Chennai Super Kings(CSK) and Rajasthan Royals for two years as a part of purifying  Indian cricket. The teams were banned after some of their team owners were found guilty in an illegal betting and match-fixing probe.

Two players of Pune Warriors, Wayne Parnell and Rahul Sharma were detained by Mumbai police in 2012 during a raid. Both of them tested positive for recreational drugs and it then looked like their careers are at the brink of collapse. Later on, they were released and did not get any punishment from the franchises whatsoever.

RCB batsman Luke Pomersbach was arrested back in 2012 over molestation complaint filed by a U.S woman. She claimed that the Aussie player had molested her and assaulted her fiancé. However, the women withdrew all the allegation later on against him and the charges were dropped.
