South African ODI captain Faf du Plessis will lead the team in the Test series against India in upcoming October. He may not lead the side in all cricketing formats though. CSA(Cricket South Africa) confirmed it. The new acting director of CSA, Corrie van Zyl, confirmed the news of Faf du Plessis’s captaincy on Test series.

Faf du Plessis will lead South Africa in Test series against India

The 35-year-old Pretoria born batsman’s position as captain of the Test team of Proteus remains on the cranky ground. The reason is South African management is seeking a restructuring of their cricket. The new planning already saw the reigning coach Ottis Gibson left from the head coach position.

Corrie van Zyl, the new acting director of cricket in South Africa, who will be the head of the selection committee during the management restructuring process, confirmed that they will keep their faith on Faf du Plessis. CSA believes there is a practically no better man to lead the team currently more than him.

The new acting director also voiced that this is not confirmed yet whether Du Plessis will be the charge in limited over formats. CSA is working on roadmap for the 2023 World Cup.

Faf will be the captain of the Test team, But we need to look forward and we will talk about the white-ball strategy to 2023,

said Van Zyl.

The new acting director emphasized that they are planning a new idea to form a new strategy for the upcoming World Cup.

It’s very important to look forward to the 2023 World Cup. We need new and better planning for this event. We’ll keep that in mind when we’ll select a new captain for our national team. We are having a selection meeting in the next day and a half to confirm that.

Van Zyl, along with CSA chief executive Thabang Moroe, will appoint an interim manager for the national team very soon. They will also appoint a new selection panel, coaching panel for South Africa A team, as well as for the Women’s cricket team.

South Africa plays the first of three T20Is on September 15 in Dharamsala. The Test series between South Africa and India will get underway on October 2 in Visakhapatnam. South Africa will host England in December.
