Hashim Amla, the name is enough. He is one of the most respectable and lovable names in the cricket world. Now, he is past. Yes, the announcement of his retirement comes sooner than expected. He just retired from all the formats of international cricket. The Durban based cricketer will not play for South Africa anymore.

Hashim Amla retired from international cricket

The 36-year-old batsman made his debut in the international cricket by a test match against India. It was in 2004. He got the nod in limited edition after almost four years of his test debut. He played his first ODI in 2008 and a first T20 match in 2009. After that almost one decade passed and he is saying adieu from cricket.

Many people doubted about his inclusion in the ICC World Cup 2019. The doubts were reasonable as he was totally off-form in the tournament. But, nobody expected him to retire right this moment. Maybe, he thought this is enough and time to say goodbye. From now on, he will only play at the domestic league.

It seems that his last match with South Africa is the match against Sri Lanka in the World Cup. He scored 80 runs in that game, but he was the shadow of himself in the whole tournament except that game.

Amla was named as one of the “Wisden Cricketers of the Year” in 2013. He scored 8113 runs in 181 ODI matches and 9282 runs in 124 test matches. He is the second-highest scorer for the Proteus in Test matches. Only former all-rounder Jacques Kallis is ahead of him.

Amla thanked everyone in his adieu statement.

At first, I should give thanks to Allah who gave me the strength to play for South Africa. It was a great honor for me. I’ve learned a lot of things, got so many friends. It was a great journey for me.

He also pray for love and peace.

I’m really pleased to get the opportunity to play for this jersey. It’s been a great journey. Peace and love

Hashim Amla finally called off the 15 years journey. He gained a reputation of one of the most naturally gifted batsmen of all-time. His retirement is surely a great loss for South Africa as well as for the cricket. He is one of the most respectable cricketer of all-time.
