Chinese mobile company Vivo will no longer be the title sponsor of the most popular domestic cricket tournament Indian Premier League. It happens after the damage to the relationship between India and China in the political arena. BCCI surely receives a significant blow as they have very little time to find another sponsor after the walkout of the Chinese mobile manufacturing giant. IPL 2020 – The title sponsor Vivo set to part ways with IPL as BCCI has to search a new sponsor. Vivo clarifies that they won’t be the sponsor of IPL 2020. However, they also clarified that they will return as the title sponsor in 2021.

Additionally, Vivo has penned a deal of huge INR 2199 crores in 2018 to gain the title sponsorship of IPL. It has helped BCCI to increase their funds significantly. They were also set to hold the title sponsorship for this year’s IPL. However, COVID 19 pandemic changed the situation. BCCI has to change the date of the IPL for several times. Moreover, the damaged relationship between India and China in the political arena also made Vivo think twice. As a result, they ultimately abandoned the title sponsorship.

Furthermore, the people of India isn’t happy with the China and Chinese company after the brawl between two countries in Galawan Valley in May. Perhaps, that is another reason Vivo decided to step out of the IPL tournament.

Sandeep Goyal predicts BCCI won’t get same amount of money from other sponsorship

On the other hand, Sandeep Goyal, the Chairman of Mogae Media, stated that BCCI will surely find another sponsor in the short period. But, they will not probably get a hefty amount of sum (440 cr) that Vivo was going to pay them. According to him –

BCCI won’t be able to earn the Rs 440 crore it was set to get from Vivo from another sponsor in this environment. This development is also a big blow for Star as Vivo will most probably stay away from advertising and other Chinese brands may follow suit considering the present anti-Chinese prevalent in the country right now.
