Former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur is set to take over the charge of Sri Lanka‘s coaching role. SLC has agreed two years contract with Arthur. Arthur will join the Lankan squad before the upcoming Test Series against Pakistan. Arthur already coached South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan and he has a vast amount of experience. The announcement of his appointment will be made shortly.

Mickey Arthur Is Set To Become Sri Lanka’s New Head Coach

The 51-years-old South African man will soon take the coaching baton of Sri Lanka as the Test series against Pakistan looms large. According to Espncricinfo, the backroom staff will be filled by Grant Flower, David Saker, and Shane McDermott. Grant Flower will work as the batting consultant while David Saker and McDermott will work as the bowling and fielding coach respectively. SLC CEO Ashley De Silva insisted that –

We are overhauling our coaching staff. Hopefully, a great journey ahead of us. Every one of them will join shortly with the squad.

Arthur

has a vast amount of coaching experience. He has already worked with three international teams for a remarkable period. His last work in the international arena with Pakistan National Team. Pakistan sacked him from the national team coach following a string of poor results, especially the failure in ICC World Cup 2019. However, Pakistan also got a series of successes under his stint.

Pakistan

lifted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 for the first time under his helm. Sarfaraz Ahmed‘s side managed to win 10 T20I Series with Arthur and claimed the first spot in the T20 ranking. Moreover, Pakistan also made significant progress in Test cricket under Arthur.

Arthur will be the 11th coach of Sri Lanka in a span of eight years. However, Zimbabwean legend Grant Flower will only work for Sri Lanka’s white-ball team. Therefore, he won’t travel with the squad for the Pakistan tour. Flower has a very good working relationship with Arthur. Both have already worked during their days in Pakistan. Grant Flower also rejected Bangladesh Premier League(BPL) team Rangpur Rangers to take over the role of Sri Lanka.

On the other hand,

SLC hasn’t confirmed the fate of the current coach Chandika Hathurusingha. However, according to various sources, Chandika Hathurusingha will remain under the contract of SLC despite SLC is appointing new coaches in the coaching panel. SO, it will be interesting what role he will take in the future.
