Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo is going to take a bold decision regarding Shakib Al Hasan. The supreme all-rounder of Bangladesh used to bat in number 4 position. However, things could get change in the upcoming West Indies tour. Domingo recently indicated that Shakib could be slotted into number 4 position. The new sensation Nazmul Hossain Shanto could take his place. Shanto is a very good youngster and getting runs consistently. Perhaps, this is the reason Domingo wants to play him in Shakib’s position in the squad. Moreover, Shakib is struggling to get runs after returning from ban. Domingo also provides a clear message to the whole batting unit ahead of West Indies series.

Shakib Will Play at Number 4 as Shanto is Going To Take His Usual Position Against WI

Shakib isn’t playing his usual best since returning from 1-year-ban. It’s quite clear that he is still yet to get his fitness and form to get back his best. So, Domingo wanted to take the pressure away from him. Shakib performed outworldly in number 3 place in the last World Cup. But, in his absence, Shanto made a big statement. The youngster played with passion and got the result. As a result, he got his rewards. Domingo thinks such move will help Bangladesh to balance their shaky middle-order.

Obviously Shanto has been in really good form. It is great to have Shakib back. He had an unbelievable World Cup at No. 3. At the moment I am probably thinking of having the experienced players at four, five and six. It gives us good maturity and experience in the middle-order.

Domingo told.

Shakib could play in no.4 position

Domingo also indicates that the lack of ODI cricket is also the reason behind his positioning in number 4.

Shakib had an unbelievable World Cup playing at Number 3. But he hasn’t played much international cricket so he might need some breathing space. So he’ll come back at Number 4.

On the other hand, Domingo wants to set a balance in Bangladesh’s pace bowling and spin. It’s no secret that Bangladesh is heavily dependent on spin. But, the South African coach wants to change that. This is the reason he includes six pacers in the squad against WI. Domingo thinks such move will slowly inject the pace bowling prowess in Bangladesh Cricket. The six pacers are – Mustafizur Rahman, Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud. The former captain of Bangladesh Mashrafe is out of the squad. It’s clear BCB and Domingo wants to build a squad for future.

Domingo clearly indicates that they’re preparing for the upcoming World Cup.

Yes, we have an eye towards the world cup. We need to take prep from now and make a balance squad who can compete in the world stage. We have eight months before the World Cup and we need to make sure we find out what’s going to be our best batting line up.

He stated.

In addition, Bangladesh is going play the first of the three ODIs against West Indies in Mirpur on Wednesday. The second match will be held at the same venue on Friday before the third and final match in Chattogram on Monday. Bangladesh will also play two Tests against the Caribbeans.
