Virat Kohli is proud of his team and honored to play for India

Saturday was the last day of group stage matches and India ends their group stage by a great ending. Indian skipper Virat Kohli is also very proud of his team.

We wanted to put good performances and we did it. We are really happy with our overall performances. I am proud of my team. We worked hard and finally get the results. It’s a great honor to play for India. We don’t want to be one dimensional. It doesn’t matter whether we’ll get bat or bow first but we have to put great efforts at any kinds of situation. We are really so happy about where we are placed. It is just about turning up on the semifinal day and putting up a performance.

Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne bemoaned the performances of middle-order.

We had a bad opening and was 55/4 at one stage but the partnership of Angelo and Thirimanne gave us a solid foundation. Sadly, our middle order failed after that and we gradually started to lose wickets. Now, we have to go back on the drawing board. We have to see what’s going wrong. I hope, our selectors will find some exciting talents and there will be good days ahead of us.

He also praised veteran pacer Lasith Malinga who retired from international cricket.

He was a great player and a great person. Lankan cricket will miss him dearly. Now, its time for young players to take the chances.

Man of the Match Rohit Sharma also praised him –

Lasith is a wonderful player. I played with him at Mumbai Indians. He’s definitely a match-winner and he showed that he is the player a team can rely on. The whole cricket world will miss him. I wish best of luck to him in his future.

Rohit Sharma scored fifth century in this world cup and become the highest scorer of the tournament

He also talks about the upcoming semi-final match –

We have had a great victory and we are enjoying it. We should think about semi-final later. No matter which team will come, we’ll have to put on a show.

India will face New Zealand at their semi-final journey while Sri Lanka will be heading home as their World Cup journey is already over.
