It hurts like hell when the victory is too near but you can’t reach it. That’s exactly what felt the Men In Maroon. While coming down to bat second, they fall short of 24 runs. They still dad a wicket at their hand though, but they were not up to the pace to reach their destination. At the 39th ODI of 48, West Indies fails miserably to Sri Lanka at Riverside Ground.

West Indies fails miserably to Sri Lanka at Riverside Ground

It was nice beautiful weather yesterday at Chester le Street and the toss result also came in favor of West Indies. However, they thought it would be better to let the Lankans bat first. Sri Lankans were very happy to get to bat first. You can get the proof by looking at their scorecard. They scored 338-6 in their innings. Avishka Fernando scored 104 runs in 103 balls. His other teammates also contributed alongside to give the Windies that mammoth target. West Indies captain Jason Holder only managed to pick up two wickets. all the other bowlers did not perform to their rank. They gave away so many unnecessary runs. Shannon Gabriel was the most expensive bowler that day. In his 5 overs he bowled, he gave away runs at an economy rate of 9.20!

Nonetheless, their target was high but not unachievable. None of their opener batsmen could hold onto to the pitch. Chris Gayle only manages to score 35 runs. Sunil Ambris and Shai hope both were disappointments as this star duo manage to score only ten runs! It was really pathetic for the team. However, in that bad situation of their team, Nicholas Pooran came to bat and took all the business into his hand.

Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran thought they were in control but it slipped.

He played an amazing 118 run innings in just 103 balls. When he was dismissed by Angelo Mathews, no other Windies batsmen could cope up with the bowlers on Sri Lanka. They were cornered by Master bowler Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews. They tried really hard yet failed.

West Indies has one last match left to play. It is a match against Afghanistan. Hopefully, they will win it as they are still a bit stronger than them.
