The glorious days have already been past for the Carribean. West Windies started their World Cup journey by beating Pakistan by a huge margin. Everything was changing after the game and as the day progresses their performance started to get bleak day by day. They failed to hit the right notes and they should better think of their future from now on. Here, we going to discuss the West Indies ICC CWC Report 2019

West Indies ICC CWC Report 2019

Overview

Only two wins from nine games. This tally is more than enough to describe the dire situation the former champions encountered. West Indies journey has been ended up by so many missed opportunities. Jason Holder‘s men were so close to big moments but they couldn’t make the proper use of those opportunities.

Roddy Estwick, the assistant coach of the West Indies also emphasized the matter.

Our inability to seize in big moments cost us tremendously

West Indies came close to winning in several matches; Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka but at the end of the day only tasted a harrowing experience. The last match wins vs Afghanistan didn’t help them from ending their campaign of ninth-place finish.

Positivity and Plus Point

West Indies’s “Do or Die” attitude is the principle incitement which nearly carried them few more wins. Carlos Braithewaite and Nicholas Pooran, both of the top-order batsmen proved their capability and was very close to pulled a miracle. But, at least, they showed their character which will give them huge confidence for the future.

The young crops of players like Pooran, Shai Hope, Hetmyer, etc. have all the ability to establish their team into a top-notch team in the near future. Their stagnation will be vital for the team as they’re preparing to make it big. The fast bowling is also filled with promising players like Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas. They’re a bit of inconsistent but they will learn and if they can properly use their creativity, they will make it big in the international stage.

Improvement Sections

West Indies showed potential but failed to translate them on the field properly. They let their game slip up from the hands for several occasions, either with their shaky bowling approach or the disorganized batting from their batsmen.

They have several hitters who can make big six. But, the problem is that they are still not up to play at 50 overs game. Their T20 style of playing didn’t work with ODI. They need to change their mindset and learn how to cope up with the different version of cricket, how to cope up with pressure at important moments. These things are very much needed if they want to step up on a big stage.

Their bowling options are also limited. They need extra spinners alongside with the seamers. Only one-dimensional bowling style won’t work with big teams.

Rising Star

Nicholas Pooran has been on the pipeline for long. He is showing his resourceful batting skills since his boyhood. Pooran is the highest scorer for West Indies this campaign. World Cup was the perfect stage to showcase his capabilities and he really made a positive impression in here.

The same thing goes for Oshane Thomas. The young pacer was inconsistent but showed his skills. If he can nurture his skills properly, he will surely take the place of former greats Courtney Walsh or Curtley Ambrose.
