After an 86-run defeat by champions Australia, New Zealand captain Williamson encourages his team to move on. New Zealand will guarantee their position at the semi-finals if they can defeat the host England on 3rd July at Riverside Ground. They can also be in the semi-finals beforehand if England loses to India today.

Williamson encourages New Zealand to move on after Australia defeat

The black captain Kane Williamson said,

There are so many variables in this sport and the World Cup. It’s about moving on to the next game. I think that the partnership between Khawaja and Carey was superb. I don’t think anybody hit the ball well on that surface all day except for Carey, and they managed to put on 100, which certainly got them a very, very competitive total.

The man of the match Alex Carey said,

Today was a nice day, high credit to Khawaja – he played right through the heat and Mitchell Starc as well. I wanted to spend some time in the middle, I’m enjoying batting at the moment, coming in early is a good opportunity, although I would like to be out there in the last 10 overs.

Australia captain, Aaron Finch said

Great partnership to get us to a competitive total by Khawaja and Carey. It was important that we get time in the middle. It was a difficult surface to play strokes on, and for Alex to get the ball off the middle was impressive.

However, it seems like the Kiwi captain has learned from his mistakes. He said to the press that,

We need to do better on the next surface. We need to have a look at the surface when we get there and make the right decisions accordingly. The wickets haven’t been what most people expected, and they’re getting tired towards the end of the tournament.
