New Zealand‘s dream of lifting the World Cup remains unfulfilled. For the second time in a row, they have become the runners up in the race. Nobody has ever seen a world cup final that much exciting before. It was a match full of uncertainty and doubts and expectation. We have to say both of the teams played their best. But there is a thing called luck and it was really with not the Kiwis this time.

New Zealand’s dream of lifting the World Cup remains unfulfilled: CWC19 Final

Maybe their bad luck caught them the moment they won the toss and decided to bat first. As history says, whoever wins the final toss in Lords, loses the match. However, New Zealand was determined to break this superstition. Though the opener duo partnership did last very long, it was not so bad at all. Captain Kane Williamson came on the third wicket and did what necessary- hold the ground hard to stabilize the team. He really directed his team well yesterday. Regardless of good balling from the Englishmen, they managed to pick up the runs whenever they got a scope. By the end of the first innings, they scored a respectable 241 runs losing 8 wickets.

Lockie & James
Lockie & James picked up 6 wickets together and literally broke the batting backbone of England.

When came to the field, Lockie Ferguson and James Neesham really showed some black magic to England. These pacers duo picked up three wickets each. But the most impressive bowling came from Colin de Grandhomme who guarded the runs like Hodor from the Game of Thrones. In his 10 overs of balling, his economy rate was only 2.5! Moreover, he dismissed England’s batting sensation Joe Root. They dismissed all the English wickets by exactly 241 runs, the same as theirs.

Then the match went to super over as the teams tied. In super over, they also tied. But as per ICC rules(higher boundary rate wins), they lose to England regardless of making same 15 runs in the super over.

It was really a heartbreaking moment of New Zealand to come so near to a victory yet to lose. Kane lost his words to console his teammates. However, they have shown the world there are as good as the champions.
