Pakistan ICC CWC Report 2019
Overview
It was a peculiar World Cup session for Sarfaraz Ahmed lead Pakistan team. This one-time world cup winner followed a pattern of their victorious ’92 campaign. However, the group-stage exit was the conclusion of their 2019 effort. They came fifth in the point table and winning the last match against Bangladesh did not help them whatsoever.
Positive Sides
Maybe Pakistans future success seeds have been planted in this session of the world cup. This is because Pakistan’s youngster players showed their immense talent during the matches. Let’s give you the proof of it:
Babar Azam, the 24-year-old batsmen scored 474 runs in this tournament so far which is the most runs a Pakistan batsman has scored in a single World Cup. Shadab Khan, the 20-year-old leg-spinner remained potent in a pace-dominated affair. The 19-year-old Shaheen Afridi, who made a six-wicket haul against Bangladesh in their final match. Though opener Imam-ul-Haq didn’t enjoy magnificent success, however, his century at Lord’s against Bangladesh reminded everyone that he has a great potential too. We hope these examples have given you enough evidence.
Need to Improve
Pakistan needs to really focus on their fielding performances. It was quite common for Pakistani players to drop off vital chances. To be specific, during their match against Australia, they gave out life 3 times to the Aussie openers. Strangely to say, while playing against the Proteas, their fielders dropped five chances to dismiss South African batsmen. Just gues how lucky they were that they so by making this lot mistakes they came out victorious. In against India, they failed to hit the stamp to dismiss Rohit Sharma in the very early stage of the game and this allowed Rohit to score a century afterward.
So yes, they definitely need to practice on fielding and a better fielding coach.
Rising Star
![Shaheen Afridi](https://stakebd.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/shaheen-afridi-cwc-2019.jpg)
Though a number of young players performed well during their gameplay, we would say Shaheen Afridi is the next Shahid Afridi of Pakistan. Although he did not shine brightly against England and Australia where he bowled very expensively, he showed his magic on the rest. Against New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh he depicted mesmerizing performance and incredible talent. He took 16 wickets with an average of 14.62. We hope his power will grow stronger with time.
