Sri Lanka registered a 23-runs victory over inspiring West Windies at match no 39 at Kennington Oval, London. This is their third win in ICC World Cup 2019. Sri Lanka now moves into 6th place after this win over against the Caribbean team.

Sri Lanka registered a 23-runs win against the savage Caribbeans  

West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran played an astonishing innings of 118-runs but fell short by 23-runs as Lankans get their third victory of this tournament.

Chasing a gigantic score of 339, West Indies had to face ferocious bowling of veteran bowler Lasith Malinga. They lost Sunil Ambris and Shai Hope when they got the when Malinga get new spell with the new ball.

West Indies batting legend Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetyemar tried to back up the team but failed. Both of them managed a 49-runs partnership before Gayle(35) got caught behind by Rajitha‘s bowl and then Hetyemar(29) run out by de Silva. The regular wicket fall leaves Windies on the brink of a huge defeat as they were 147-5 at the moment.

Then, this is youngster Nicholas Pooran who came into the crease and gave hope to the Caribbean side. This 23-year old left-hander didn’t play good in this tournament before this game. But, he really played a solid-innings which saved West Indies from an utter shame. This was a great challenge for him and he took it with great maturity.

Tailender Fabian Allen also helped Pooran to build Windies a formidable score. Allen managed to score 51 runs from 32 deliveries while Pooran posted 118-runs from 103 balls.

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted a gigantic 338 runs after Avishka Fernando scored his first-ever ODI century(104) while Lankan opener Kusal Perrera 64 in 51-balls.

Sri Lanka got a brilliant start as two of their openers captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perrera managed to add 93-runs partnership before the dismissal of the Lankan skipper Karunaratne (32). They kept their pace in full rhythm as Fernando pounded a brilliant first time ODI century in his career.

Avishka Fernandod’s first ever century helped Sri Lanka to post a mammoth score of 338.

Later, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews posted a moderate score of 39 and 26 respectively while tailender Thirimanne‘s unbeaten 45-runs helped Sri Lanka to score their highest runs in this tournament.

Both Sri Lanka and West Indies are out of the tournament even before this game. They don’t have any more chance in this campaign. Sri Lanka managed to win in three games from eight matches while Windies managed to win one game by playing the same amount of the game.

Although they both are out of the fray from the semi-finals spots, both teams showed tremendous attitude in the game as it seems they are determined to end the tournament with some good and positive vibe even after such an ill-starred World Cup.

Sri Lanka will face India on July 6 while West Indies will face Afghanistan on July 4 at their last game of World Cup 2019.
